Sonata No. 8
Music is always playing in our home. The other day it was tuned to the local classical radio station (which is a perfect mind cleanser when you need a reset). A song came on that sounded so familiar, but I couldn’t place it (like so many compositions of the way way back). After a quick Shazam, the best bet was to then do a search of “which movie/show featured ____ song” because that’s the likeliest connection point. This particular piece was Beethoven’s Sonata No. 8. It has indeed been on several soundtracks, including the 1969 film “A Boy Named Charlie Brown”. Maybe I’ve seen this? In watching the clip with Schroeder playing No. 8, I’m pretty sure not; I would remember the scene. What a beautiful mix of color, with a looser illustration style than I’m used to seeing from Charles Schultz. I love it on its own, but also because it’s confidently out of place in an otherwise standard Peanuts production. So I might never know how this song originally rooted itself in my brain, but I definitely have a new wonderful association. Sometimes the rabbit hole turns up a treasure.
